Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of start-ip.eu and the Start-IP application (the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service you accept them. If you use the Service on behalf of a company, you confirm that you are authorised to accept these terms for it.

1. Who we are

2. The Service

Start-IP is a software tool that searches patent databases and uses artificial intelligence to produce screening reports, such as freedom to operate, prior art, novelty and patent landscape reports, based on the technology description you provide.

3. Not legal advice

  • Reports are generated automatically. They are a research aid, not a legal opinion, and they do not create a lawyer and client relationship.
  • Patent searches can never be complete. Reports may miss relevant patents, contain errors, or describe legal status that has since changed.
  • Before making decisions with legal or financial consequences, such as launching a product, signing a contract or filing a patent, you should consult a qualified patent attorney.

4. Your account

  • You must be at least 18 and use the Service for professional purposes.
  • The information you give us must be accurate. Keep your password confidential: you are responsible for activity in your account.
  • Accounts are personal and may not be shared.

5. Your content

  • You keep all rights to the descriptions and documents you submit (“Your Content”).
  • You give us a limited permission to store and process Your Content only to provide the Service to you.
  • You confirm that you have the right to submit Your Content and that doing so does not breach any confidentiality obligation you owe to others.
  • We keep Your Content confidential and do not use it to train AI models, as described in our Privacy Policy.

6. Reports

You may use the reports generated for you for your own business purposes, including sharing them with your advisers, investors and partners. The software, the website and our methods remain our property. Patent documents cited in reports are public information from their original sources.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service for unlawful purposes;
  • copy, resell or extract data from the Service in bulk, including by automated means;
  • attempt to access other users' data or to disrupt the Service;
  • reverse engineer the Service, except where the law allows it.

8. Early access

The Service is in early access. Features may change, be added or be removed, and the Service may occasionally be unavailable. We will try to give notice of significant changes.

9. Fees

Access is currently granted on an individual basis. If you choose a paid plan, the price and payment terms will be shown to you before you buy, and those terms will apply together with these.

10. Liability

  • The Service is provided “as is”. To the extent permitted by law, we do not guarantee that reports are complete or error free, or that the Service will meet your specific needs.
  • To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect losses, lost profits or decisions you take based on a report.
  • Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or 100 euro if you paid nothing.
  • Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, wilful misconduct or gross negligence, or any other liability that cannot be limited by law.

11. Suspension and termination

You can stop using the Service and ask us to delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, and we will tell you why unless the law prevents us.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will tell registered users by email at least 15 days before significant changes take effect. If you do not agree, you can close your account before then.

13. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by Italian law. Any dispute falls under the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Alessandria, without prejudice to any mandatory rules that protect you where you live.
