Most startups that fail were not building the wrong product. They were building in the wrong direction — and no one told them until the runway was gone.

Think about it: you spend 18 months engineering something remarkable. You raise a seed round. You hire a team. You launch.

Then a letter arrives. Claim 14(b)(iii) of a patent filed in 2007. Your legal counsel reads it. You read it. Nobody in the room has slept in three days.

That is not a legal problem. That is a navigation problem. You were driving the highway without a speedometer, and you just found out there was a speed trap the whole time.

Engineers should be in flow state — arguing about architecture, breaking things, shipping. Not deciphering 47-page documents written in legally-English, spiritually-ancient-Latin.
